Sisters Kathryn and Meg Grant, who were born and raised in Delaware County, will witness the PA premiere of their film “Order My Steps” at the Media Film Festival on Thursday, April 4 at 7 p.m.

Kathryn Grant wrote the screenplay for the film. She is a playwright and fiction writer with multiple productions, publications and award-winning works. Her plays and fiction are published by Samuel French, Smith & Krauss, Applause Books and 24th Parallel Literary Magazine. She is in the process of developing a series based on the play, “The Good Counselor” with Sue Robin Pollock and producer, Vicki McCarty and Covington, Int.

Kathryn’s sister, Megan Grant, is the film co-producer along with Mulberry Queens films.

Fundraising for “Order my Steps” began in Media with staged readings of the script, so it’s truly special that the film makes its official Media and PA debut on April 4 at the 2024 Media Film Festival.

“Order My Steps”, directed by Augusta Palmer, boasts a terrific performance by Carla Brandberg as Peg, an incarcerated woman on a video call with her estranged daughter, Dorian. Twenty years have passed since the two last had contact.

Unable to overcome addiction, Peg lost custody of her daughter. The short film tells the story of the mother/daughter relationship via the video call, which is interspersed with flashbacks to the past. It’s a beautiful examination of how regret can transform life and bring about hope and healing.

Ms. Branberg gives an amazing performance as Peg, a woman looking back on the mistakes she made in the past. It’s an engaging and multi-layered portrayal of an older, wiser and battle-scarred woman. Film director Augusta Palmer keeps the pacing crisp and the camera frames unpredictable. The film delivers its powerful message in 19 emotionally concise minutes.

I always enjoyed attending the Media Film Festival. Some of the short films I saw there in past years were absolute gems. If I still lived in Media and could attend this year’s festival, “Order My Steps” would definitely fall into the film gem category. Don’t miss it!
