A House Divided: A Blue-Collar Comedy on National Themes

Live Theater, 1h 20m, Nov 14-24, $15-$25 [BUY TICKETS]

Like many Americans, the Gebauers were barely on speaking terms in 2016. A long-haul trucker and Trump supporter from rural Pennsylvania, Jim steered clear of his progressive wife Rosalie, a grade-school teacher from Philadelphia, until election day put them and their two children on a collision course that ended in separation. Five years and one pandemic later, the family comes together on Thanksgiving in an even more polarized atmosphere. Will they navigate the minefield of issues dividing America in the fall of 2021, or will they finalize their divorce?

A new play by Yellow Bicycle founder Joshua Crone, featuring YBT regulars Patricia Casperson, John Crann, Robert Guajardo, Dave Leitch, and Tiffany Ray and newcomers Gwendolyn Felton, Alexis Goode, and Erica Moody. All performances will be live-streamed and followed by audience talkbacks.

Firebird: Built to Burn

Screening for ONE NIGHT ONLY – A Philadelphia Community Rising Out of the Ashes
Documentary, 1h 25m, Wed Nov 13 at 7 pm, $12 [BUY TICKETS]

A sense of communal identity is often a casualty during hard economic times, and that makes it increasingly difficult for communities everywhere to revitalize. With this in mind, restoring this shared identity is the solution, and the healing power of collective art is the best pathway to a renewed sense of place. That’s the core message of Firebird: Built To Burn, a documentary that follows a tight-knit group of volunteers in resurgent Phoenixville, PA, as they orchestrate their town’s most treasured collective art event: the building and burning of a giant wooden phoenix.

Leading up to the first Firebird Festival, Phoenixville was slowly restoring itself after an economic downturn that lasted over a decade. Local artists took note of this renewal and reflected it in the festival. Like the mythological phoenix, the town was rising out of the ashes. After the Firebird Festival was canceled due to the 2020 pandemic, the resilient local community orchestrated a come-back burn like no other the following year. Through captivating visuals and intimate interviews, Firebird: Built to Burn immortalizes how this annual ritual fosters bonds of unity and collective creativity.
