Black-Faced Lye
The Film. The Play. The Phenomenon.
On September 8, 1980, Martin was asleep when his younger brother, Calvin, stood over him and poured lye and acid onto his face. Martin’s face and life were decimated in this one blinding and grotesque act. But would you believe his family said he got what he deserved?
Was Martin Green a narcissist? An addict? A demon? Or simply and profoundly a human being? It depends on who you ask. It depends on who you think you see.
Step into the curious world of Martin Green through the multimedia production Black-Faced Lye, written, directed and produced by Ulysses “Butch” Slaughter. Black-Faced Lye combines film with live monologues to bring the audience face-to-face with deep existential and ethical questions about family, justice, mental health and social stability.
