Bristol Riverside Theatre opens its 2024-25 theatre season with “The Gin Game” by Donald L. Coburn. This riveting, Pulitzer Prize-winning dark comedy is set in the most unlikely of places: a nursing home game room. The play runs from Sept. 10 to 29 at The Regency Room, an offsite black-box pop-up theatre location BRT is using while its main stage is closed through the end of the year for a multimillion-dollar renovation project underway.

BRT opens “The Gin Game” on Friday, Sept. 13, at 8 p.m.

Barrymore Award winner Zuhairah McGill will play Fonsia.

Jon Maran directs BRT’s 90-minute emotional rollercoaster between two new acquaintances, Weller, played by award-winning artistic producer and actor Keith Baker, and Fonsia, played by Barrymore Award winner Zuhairah McGill. When the two seniors discover each other and begin a card game of gin together, the rules of cards and life play out across the table, with both players locked in a relentless battle of wills. The game advances into all-out war through endless humiliations and ideological conflict, and how will it all end?
