Review: ‘Cindy of Arc’ Ablaze at The Fire!

Cindy of Arc (Cynthia Kaplan) unequivocally ROCKS her audience with her music, identity and searing wit. Cindy refers to this form of entertainment as a “c’ock show” an abbreviation for comedy rock show. Guitar in hand like a stringed weapon, this uproarious comedienne shoots out lyrics that hit upon being Jewish, being a woman, “about the problem men have with lying and where that’s gotten the rest of us, particularly women…” as well as other politically charged themes, including Nazis.

Cindy of Arc (Cynthia Kaplan).

Highly humorous stories interposed between musical ditties highlight topics such as how women are made up by men, why doesn’t Mary get all the credit when a ‘hail Mary’ works, and how Kaplan played the role of Aldonza in elementary school production of ‘Man of LaMancha’ singing the man-made words, “‘Won’t you look at me, look at me, God, won’t you look at me! Look at the kitchen slut reeking with sweat! Born on a dung heap to die on a dung heap, A strumpet men use and forget!” – an absurd thing to sing at age NINE.  And much more, including the tunes “Migraine”, “Avocado Toast” (who knew it could be so costly!), “We Were the Donner Party”, how Pandora got her box, plus some serious etymological lessons literally illuminating the root of what is wrong with dominant patriarchal ideology, all while being outrageously hilarious!
