Wuhan Unleashed by Ron Fleming is a true account of events in Communist China and at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Ron Fleming was one of the first Americans to visit the Institute of Virology. He was asked to join the Foreign Commerce Service, the promotional arm of the U.S. Trade Administration to develop international procurement programs for the state of California. In this role, he traveled all over the world and eventually became the liaison for China. Ron was present when the British handed Hong Kong over to mainland China. At midnight of that day, the Chinese Communist Police (CCP) moved in and established their very restrictive regulations. Entrance to mainland was an extremely complex process with many security checkpoints. Dissent was punishable by torture and death (and it was carried out on many occasions). Even the animal population suffered—ever heard of Puppy Soup? It’s a real thing.
Eventually, Ron and Mike decided to form a corporation to procure building materials for the Three Gorges Dam. On the way to Hubei province, they passed through the notorious “wet market”. This is a giant pavilion filled with tables, chairs and people eating. The eating area is surrounded by aquariums filled with every living species of seafood imaginable. Ron thought these might be experimental lab animals and were then being served for dinner!
As Ron returned to the Hubei area he saw a lonely facility perched at the top of a hill which he recognized as the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Now, using binoculars, he saw satellite dishes, ten meter radio antenna towers, directional finders, and an array of telecommunication equipment. It was obvious that the Institute was conducting biological weapons research. He and Mike left China immediately in order to send this information to the U. S. Embassy, the British Consulate and any other consulates where Mike and Ron conducted business. Once they were informed, the ball was in their courts as to any action.
Mike and Ron closed their business and Mike relocated his office to Kowloon. Mike never elaborated on the fate of those in Wuhan who may have revealed the issues in the lab but it must have been horrendous.
Ron has monitored events in China from 1998 to the appearance of COVID in 2020. The COVID pandemic has turned out to be the most horrific historical event ever. To learn that the people who assisted the exposure of the lab had possibly come into great harm by the CCP is disturbing. But who broke the biovial? There are three theories surrounding the outbreak: (1) it was a natural evolutionary virus out of the Wuhan wet market; (2) it was a biological accident out of the Wuhan Institute; (3) it was the intentional release of a virus by the Chinese Communist Party. And then there is the question: was the United States involved in any way in either covering the costs of these experiments or covering up information? Answers may be found in this book.
Author Ron Fleming provided a lot of information on his educational background and on the ins and outs of international trade. His history of Chinese politics is enlightening, It is his belief that the U.S., as well as the rest of the world, must become less dependent on Chinese goods. Until this over-dependence is addressed, the U.S. and rest of the world will be at the mercy of the Chinese Communist Party’s authoritarian decision processes.
