‘Glitter in the Glass’ Gets Extension at Theatre Exile

Theatre Exile is closing its 2024–25 season with a powerful and inventive new work from one of Philadelphia’s most acclaimed voices. Glitter in the Glass, the East Coast premiere of a wildly funny and deeply thought-provoking new play by award-winning writer R. Eric Thomas, opens June 5 and due to early demand, the production has already been extended through June 22.

The show stars Jennifer Nikki Kidwell as Chelle, a Black artist tasked with replacing a Confederate monument in her childhood neighborhood. What begins as a high-profile public commission quickly spirals into a surreal, time- and space-bending journey through legacy, pressure, and self-discovery. Directed by Ontaria Kim Wilson and featuring a stellar cast including Kishia Nixon and Danny Wilfred, Glitter in the Glass is genre-defying and deeply resonant.

Thomas, no stranger to Theatre Exile, workshopped the piece through their Studio X-hibition series and continues a fruitful creative relationship with the company following their 2021 commission of The Ever Present.

Twelfth Night, William Shakespeare’s romantic comedy opens at The Stagecrafters on June 13 at their theater on Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill.

Britttany Fauzer as Olivia, Matt Rydzewski as Orsino and Heather Birmingham as Viola.

Love, confusion and mistaken identity set the plot in motion in Illyria a location providing a romantic atmosphere.

Twelfth Night is a reference to the Eve of Epiphany or the twelfth night after Christmas, a festive day of celebration. Mischief and merriment ensue, with all the characters entangled in romantic and comic situations.

But as in the Bard’s comedies, in the course of Twelfth Night, these intertwined relationships are miraculously resolved.
