Both offerings will be set up downstairs, right outside of DelArt’s 160-seat auditorium where the screenings will take place.

Multimedia Production at The Phoenix Bar

Ahead of the National Day of Service honoring the work and legacy of The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Aston producer, Ulysses “Butch” Slaughter will present Exposing the Content of our Character, a multimedia production centered around his provocative film “Black-Faced Lye.” The event takes place Friday, Jan. 10, 2025 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Phoenix Bar and Grill in Aston (4936 Pennell Road).

Tickets are available at ulyssesbutchslaughter.com

Black-Faced Lye is the story of Martin Green, a man whose own brother threw lye and acid on his face as an act of revenge. Denver actor, Don Randle, will perform a series of haunting live monologues in conjunction with Slaughter’s film.

Part film, part stage play, Black-Faced Lye explores these questions through the life of Martin Green, a man whose journey from betrayal and self-destruction to possible redemption challenges everything we think we know about justice and forgiveness.

In a world where scars—both physical and emotional—run deep, Martin Green’s story forces us to ask: can we live up to Dr. King’s dream of judging others by their character, even when forgiveness seems impossible?

If You Go

The $25 ticket includes theater admission and a $5 credit that can be applied to dine-in food purchases. (Not for use with alcohol purchases.)
