Plant Based is a character-driven dramedy set in a small Connecticut town that finds itself divided when a marijuana dispensary, Plant Based, starts up in the town.
The pilot broadcast debuted in December 2025, released by producer and actress Jess Stinson. Many of the actors who appear in the podcast are seasoned theater performers in the Tri-State area. The new video web series was inspired by an idea Jess Stinson had for a stand-up comedy story about the impact a marijuana dispensary would have on a conservative town. Tony Moore turned the idea into a pilot for a video web series. The pilot was filmed in two locations: in Ms. Stinson’s Delaware County home and at the Blue Moon Theatre in Woodstown, N.J.
Inspired by the tensions that arise when modern policies meet long-standing local identities, the series explores community, change, and the surprising alliances that form when a town must confront what it really values.
The pilot introduces an ensemble of residents who each see the store as either a threat, an opportunity, or a mirror held up to their own personal crossroads. Through humor and grounded storytelling, the series aims to balance heartfelt drama with the eccentricities and charm of small-town life.
We meet Graham and Cooper, a devoted couple determined to open a cannabis dispensary in their conservative hometown. On opening day, the doors finally swing wide, introducing us to their quirky, mismatched crew of employees—along with several locals who are far less enthusiastic about the new shop, its products, and the couple behind it.
