Colonial Playhouse to present ‘A Christmas Carol’

Colonial Playhouse will present “A Christmas Carol”, adapted by Peter deLaurier, November 24 – December 9. This heartwarming rendition of the Dickens classic tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge as he is haunted by the ghosts of his late partner, Jacob Marley, Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and the Spirit of Christmas Yet to Come.

Faced with his own mortality and the evil results of his misanthropic and miserly ways, Scrooge is at last reconciled with his family and his neighbors, and becomes a second father to his assistant’s son, Tiny Tim

Delaware County Symphony features Beethoven’s ‘Piano Concerto No. 4’

The Delaware County Symphony will present the second full symphonic concert of the 2017-2018  season at 3 pm on Sunday, December 3, 2017 The concert features international guest soloist Ms. Ching-Yun Hu from Taipei performing the beloved Piano Concerto No. 4 by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Declared a “first-class talent ” (The Philadelphia Inquirer) and “Superstar quality, musical, energetic and full of flair” (the Jerusalem Post), Taiwanese-American pianist Ching-Yun Hu is recognized and acclaimed worldwide for her dazzling technique, deeply probing musicality, and directly communicative performance style. Ching-Yun Hu’s concert career has flourished with a host of engagements on five continents. Last year, she recorded “Before the Wresting Tides” by Jeremy Gill for the Boston Modern Orchestra Project with Gil Rose at Boston’s Jordan Hall. Ms. Hu will make her fourth appearance with the Taipei Chinese Orchestra in Taiwan, and return to Germany at the Frankfurt Opera House performing Beethoven Concertos No. 1 and 2 with the Staatskapelle Halle. She has appeared at prestigious concert halls across the globe, including London, Paris, Amsterdam, Munich and Japan, just to name a few.

The concert will include La Péri Fanfare for Brass by Paul Dukas, Masques et bergamasques Suite by Gabriel Fauré  and Brigg Fair by Frederick Delius. All are invited to a free pre-concert presentation by Dr. C. Michael Kelly from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m. in the McNichol Room. Concert tickets are $20 or $17 for seniors/students and free for children age 12 and under with paying adult. Please note: Upon presentation of your Delaware County or Montgomery County Library card you may purchase one ticket at the regular price and then receive one free ticket at the ticket table the day of the concert.  There is ample free parking and the center is handicapped accessible.
