Director Wendy Mirto, Music Director Denise Wisneski, Ass. Director Clem Mirto and Choreographer Gail Oldfield have teamed together to present the musical based on the popular 1988 film, “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” beginning Sept 8 and running through Oct 1 at Forge Theatre.
The musical is centered on two con-artists living and playing in the French Riviera. The first is the suave and sophisticated Lawrence Jameson who makes his lavish living by charming rich women out of their money. The other, a small-time grifter named Freddy Benson, swindles women by waking their compassion with fabricated stories about his grandmother’s failing health. After meeting on a train, these men attempt, unsuccessfully, to work together to con several rich women at the resort, only to find that the small French town isn’t big enough for both of them. They finally agree to a contest; the first one to swindle $50,000 from a young female target, heiress Christine Colgate, is the winner and the other must leave town. A hilarious battle of cons ensues that will have audiences laughing and singing all the way home.
Forge Theatre is at 241 First Ave., Phoenixville, PA 19460
